The Hushamok
The Hushamok - Lull Your Baby To Sleep With The Amazing Hushamok...
Who doesn’t love the comfort and security of swaying in a hammock? The sides of the hammock gently cradle your body as you look up towards the sky. It is a very peaceful feeling. No wonder it is so easy to fall asleep in one of those things. What if you could give your baby (or another baby you love) that same soothing experience?
The Hushamok Dream was created to do just that. The Hushamok was developed by Mark and Julie Soboil after the birth of their first child, who had colic. A friend suggested they try a hammock, which has been used for centuries to calm infants. The hammock worked wonders in soothing their restless and unsettled baby. With Mark and Julie’s backgrounds in Environmental Science and interest in using sustainable materials, their journey to design modern comfort solutions began. The Hushamok is a modern take on an old tradition and blends modern design with function beautifully.
The unique design of the hammock provides vestibular and proprioceptive and input to your baby, which is calming and soothing. Contrast that to a huge, empty crib, where a baby may feel insecure, especially after just coming out of the womb in which he was tightly nestled.
The most innovative feature of the Hushamok is the hammock's ability to sway gently and be bounced. Parents can gently rock and bounce baby to sleep and best of all, baby's natural movements will set the hammock into a gentle motion, so that he can self soothe during the night. Babies who are properly positioned in the Hushamok tend to sleep longer than babies in regular cribs, making parents VERY happy. The proprioceptive and vestibular stimulation which the Hushamok provides, helps to calm your fussy/colicky baby and at the same time promotes body awareness and neurological and physical development.
The Hushamok Hammock sits low to the ground, which makes it a safe choice for your baby. Parents can easily reach over without getting out of their bed and check on their baby with ease! This is important for moms who have had Caesarean Sections, those recovering from difficult births and parents with disabilities.
With the Hushamok, there are no dangerous slats to compromise safety, but instead, the Hushamok is made from 100% Turkish Organic Cotton with a Polyethylene Mattress, providing your baby with a non-toxic environment. In addition, The Hushamok is JMPA Certified.
Changing your baby's sheet has never been easier. Forget back breaking manoeuvre that parents with regular cribs have to perform, to change their baby's mattress! The Hushamok is super portable and fits into the sturdy travel bag provided for easy travel.
The makers of the hammock say that it helps small babies to feel more relaxed because they are used to the movement of being in the womb. Unlike cribs, this device allows for gentle motion. It also does not have a flat, rigid bottom, so the baby is held in a more comfortable position and is less likely to develop a flat head.
The Hushamok can be disassembled and includes a carrying bag so that baby can have the comfort of home while travelling. It looks really cozy to me... I kind of wish they made one for adults!

Create a Sports-Themed Room with Style
Most boys will begin to show an interest in one sport or perhaps many from a very young age. Then, they start to play, watch college and pro ball and slowly create a list of favorite teams, players, and coaches. Given this typical cycle for boys, it makes sense that one of the most common themes for boy’s room is sports. What I would like to do is give you some great options when it comes to decorating with this type of theme. Too often I think parents shy away from a sports theme because they don’t think it can be done in a tasteful or appealing way. By keeping it simple and focusing on bringing the sports theme out in the accents, I think you will find it very easy to please both parent and child.
To begin, I would suggest you use a neutral color on the walls – a khaki or taupe is always good. You could also use a basic color such as blue, however stay with tones that are still neutral – for example a darker and deeper tone like navy or if you prefer a lighter color, look for paler denim. Either of these will allow the walls to remain subtle and merely a backdrop for the rest of the décor. These types of paint choices also help keep the room mellow and less chaotic than if you were to go with a brighter or bolder color. However, if you (or your little boy) feel drawn to a bright and bold color, consider painting just one accent wall and keeping the rest in the more subtle tone – it will add great visual interest without becoming too busy.
Bedding is another area where you may want to play it “safe” if you will. A duvet and sham set that is solid or very close to solid will get more mileage because if themes or passions change, it can stay. You will focus on bringing about the theme – in this case, sports – with the sheets, accent pillows, and a throw or blanket. Check out this Cole bedding set by Serena & Lily…a little bit of pattern and texture still doesn’t take away from the overall simplicity and neutral tones:
With those two large focal points of the room taken care of, you can really have some fun. Things like lighting fixtures, accent pieces and art are great places to really bring out the sports theme. Just because your little guy is a die-hard Mets fan, doesn’t mean that every square inch of the room should look like a Mets locker room. Keep the big things (wall color and bedding) neutral and subtle and go wild with all the details. The result will be a room filled with the teams and sports he loves, while you have a room that remains coherent with the rest of the house. Here are some examples of great unique sports themed pieces which I think any boy would love:

Hockey Pendant:
Sports Growth Chart:

Three Popular Themes for Boys Rooms
For some people, putting together a decorative scheme for their kids’ rooms comes naturally. For others, having a theme to build the room around can help focus choices of color and pattern, as well as help make it easier to choose pictures and other fun accent pieces. The Boys Depot offers a number of items for themed rooms – here are some great ways to help your son personalize a room he’ll love throughout his childhood.
Decorating a room with cars and trucks not only offers a positive way for your son to explore an interest in mechanics and engineering, but it can help ignite his imagination as well! Start his room off with a basic rug in blue and ivory with cars printed along the border, then decorate his bed with a Metro Quilt and Pillow Sham. Every race car driver needs to keep track of the time, so a clock is a necessity to help your child learn responsibility and punctuality. Sometimes the smallest touches can bring the most delight to a room, such as the Blue Car Aluminum Drawer Knob that can be added to the dressers and closet door handles already in place in your son’s room. With all the detailed pieces available from The Boys Depot, your son will even be able to blow his nose with a tissue from a Car Tissue Box Cover!
If your son prefers a horse-drawn buggy to a Model-T, then maybe a room with a Cowboy theme will make them enjoy hours of using their imagination. Lamps, chandeliers door hangers, and even a cowboy-themed Club Chair and Ottoman help dress up the area your child calls their own, and when they’re ready to go to bed at night your kids can snuggle up under the covers in their Country Western Bedding Set, where they can settle in for a night of cowboy-themed dreams inspired by their bedroom’s décor.
Has your little wild thing been nursing dreams of setting out to sea? The hero of the classic children’s tale, “Where the Wild Things Are,” sets out to sea in a tiny boat – and with a Retro Rocker–Runabout, your little guy can imagine he’s pushing out into the waves, in search of a new, imaginary playmates. Carpeting can be found in abundance at The Boys Depot, from Classic Compass Rugs in multiple colors, including Navy and Ivory, or a Mariner Rug you can use to help teach your son about how to find their way at sea (well, at imaginary sea, at least) while they lie on their Boat Toddler Cot or under their High Seas Standard Sham, for older kids.
Thanks to the educational themed products at The Boys Depot, there are plenty of ways to dress up your child’s bedroom using any of these imaginative, engaging, and inspirational home décor themes.

The PlasmaCar
There are three categories of toys in my house: Toys that my son cares about, toys the he plays with, but can be persuaded to share… and toys that are LOVED. In this third category, resides The PlasmaCar. We gave the Plasmacar to our 2 year old son to test (before deciding to sell in the store) a few weeks back. We knew it had been popular but it looked like a fairly standard ride-on toy. It wasn’t electric, there were no bells or horns, no fancy stickers. So I was a little perplexed. But within thirty seconds of trying the The PlasmaCar, he was thrilled, careening around corners in the store, narrowly missing shopping carts. The child who was otherwise shy and reserved, who clung to me like a drowning cat, was now hard to keep up with.
We just recently had friends over with their kids and everyone loved it. Why? According to the UK importer PlasmaCar.org.uk it makes use of “…that most inexhaustible of energy sources, kid-power, by harnessing the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity, and friction.” If you’re like me, I just blinded you with science, but the point is that it’s been designed to propel kids forward in a way they’ve never tired. It has no pedals, needs no batteries, and is blessedly free of any annoying sounds. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio awarded this their Platinum Award and it seems like parents agree… check out the reviews. It’s been about a month now, and he is still in love with it as much as the day we bought it...
I’m also happy to report that adults can actually fit on it, which means I can go cruising down the driveway as my my son and husband watch from the sidelines shrieking, “My turn next!”
